The A4988 stepper motor driver is a DMOS micro-stepping driver with converter and over current protection that operates bipolar stepper motors in full, half, quarter, 1/8 and 1/16 step modes for output drive performance Up to 35 V and ±2, the A4988 includes a fixed off-time current regulator that operates in slow or mixed-fade mode. The converter is the key to the ease of implementation of the A4988. Simply input a pulse into the “step” input to drive the motor to generate a micro-step. No phase sequence table, high frequency control line or complex interface programming is required. The A4988 interface is ideal for applications where complex microprocessors are not available or overloaded.
